2021 Banger Class Rules

This is a beginner’s class to introduce people to the sport of auto racing. As such, the rules for this class will be enforced to save costs. No driver who has competed in upper classes will be allowed to drop back and run this class without approval prior approval. The track will approve drivers based on past experience level. First Race will be April 2021! If car count is low this class may combined with V-Stock

Car eligibility:

Cars eligible for this class are American-made front wheel drive, four-door, and V6 cars only. Full-sized cars only. No supercharged or turbocharged vehicles allowed. Cars must have an automatic transmission. No manual drive cars allowed. A complete list of eligible cars is below. If you have a different car, please contact the track for approval. All Cars must pass a class inspection before any car is allowed on track to race which may include chassis dyno test.. A owner’s manual is required by team!

Chevrolet: 1989-2001 Lumina, 2000-2004 Impala

Buick: 1988-2004 Regal, 1997-2005 Century, 1991-2004 Park Avenue

Pontiac: 1989-2003 Grand Prix, 1990-2004 Grand Am, 1987-2004 Bonneville

Oldsmobile: 1998-2002 Intrique, 1988-1997 Cutlass Supreme, 1998-2004 Alero

Dodge: 1993-2004 Interpid

Chrysler: 1993-2004 Concorde

Ford: 1989-2004 Taurus

Mercury: 1989-2004 Sable

Lincoln: 1988-2002 Continental

ENGINE

All engines and transmissions must remain completely stock from air filter to oil pan. Only modifications allowed are as follows.

1. May remove any emissions equipment, smog controls, heating and ac components and extra accessory belts.
2. May remove Catalyst. Straight pipe exhaust is allowed, but must exit behind the driver.
3. May use a single transmission cooler to help extend the life of automatic transmission.

Any other modification at all will be deemed illegal and will lead to immediate disqualification.

SUSPENSION/TIRES

No modifications at all to suspension components. All cars must use stock OEM springs, shocks and struts and stay at stock ride height. No cutting, heating or otherwise altering springs is allowed.

1. Max/Min camber for this class is +/- one inch. This will be checked on a level surface with a carpenter’s square. This is built in to allow for factory tolerances. Any car found with excessive camber will be disqualified.
2. Car must use stock steel or aluminum wheels that are the factory size for the make and model of car being raced. No aftermarket wheels – period. May use larger studs and heavy-duty lug nuts on the right front to prevent overloading.
3. DOT tires with a minimum of 400 treadwear allowed. No soaking, shaving, softening or otherwise altering tires. No recaps.

BODY

Body must remain stock factory OEM unless otherwise stated below. No cutting, chopping, gutting or removing body panels except for the installation of the safety cage.

1. No gutting of hood, trunk, doors or other body panels. Driver’s door may be gutted only if using a 4-point cage with 4 door bars.
2. Hood must keep hinges. Must remove front latch and replace with two hood pins. All cars must have tow hooks or chains mounted to the front and rear bumpers for easy access by safety crews.
3. All glass except windshield must be removed. Must have either factory windshield, lexan or screen in place before racing. No other windows allowed. Wipers recommended in case it rains, we race!
4. All trim, chrome, mirrors, glass and other sharp or loose objects must be removed before racing
5. All doors must be welded, chained or bolted securely shut.

SAFETY
All safety rules are minimum requirements. Please make your car as safe as possible

All cars must remove interior carpet, headliner, upholstery, door panels and other flammable materials. Any glass inside the car must be vacuumed out thoroughly before allowed on the race track.

1. A four-point roll cage is strongly recommended. This means a roll over hoop, halo bars, front down bars and at least Three door bars on the driver’s side. No bars may pass through the front fire wall to the engine compartment and no bars may extend beyond the rear hoop. Should be welded to steel plates at each corner on the floor board
2. A roll-over hoop is REQUIRED and must be made of ¾-inch steel pipe. Must be welded to steel plates on the floor and supported by two down bars to the rear and at least one door-bar on either side. All bars within driver’s reach must be padded with approved roll-bar padding.
3. 4-point safety harness (minimum) is required. Must be-in good condition. Will be checked by track officials for wear. Belts must be bolted safely to the roll bars.
4. Must use either the factory bucket seat or an approved aluminum racing seat (recommended) must be securely mounted in the car and to the rear hoop.
5. A fire extinguisher is required to be secured safely inside the car at all times.
6. Car must start with a key/use stock ignition switch. Airbags must be deactivated/removed. Fords are allowed to disconnect rear-end collision inertia switch.
7. Stock gas tank allowed as long as it is in front of the rear axles. Fuel cell allowed, but all fuel lines must run outside the cockpit of the car. Steel firewall between trunk and cockpit is required if you are using a fuel cell. 8 gal. max.
8. Allowed to relocate battery from under the hood to the cockpit or trunk area of the car. Any battery that is moved must be securely mounted in an approved battery box.
9. Auto racing type crash helmet mandatory. Fireproof suit, shoes and gloves highly recommended. Driver must be wearing long sleeves and pants.

RACE PROCEDURES

Track reserves the right to alter the race procedure in any way to make the race more competitive or interesting for fans. Races will be run with inverted fields, obstacles on the track, wet track conditions or in clockwise/counter clockwise direction. Be prepared for changes to the race program at promoter’s discretion.

Contact in this class is allowed and expected, but unsafe or intentionally dangerous driving will not be permitted. This is a class to learn the basics of short track racing.

No one will be allowed to race if they have been consuming alcohol or drugs.

Winning drivers will receive a trophy for their efforts. This class has no purse payout.
